Jazzy B – Maharajas

Jazzy B Maharajas ReviewMaharajas is an awesome looking album with a great inlay design and layout. In the first look the album seems like a concept album based on folk heroes of Punjab. However that’s not the case.
The album starts with Hukam which has the three maestros singing together. But altogether too much music is going on in the song it sounds crowded. The lyrics are very well however and it sets up the mood for Maharajas. The Second track Nakhro is a better track with very nice music and pimped up feel of Jazzy B. The rap is nice and the beats are kicking.

Jazzy goes back to his classical roots in Teer. The opening couplet has been sung at a very high scale. All in all the song is very reminiscent of the songs gone by and the composition is also retro in feel. Jazzy sang such songs in the middle of his career. That said, the song is brilliant and is a fresh welcome. Also, the lyrics are great in this song. The couplet alone makes it up for everything..

Jazzy B Maharajas Score
Next is the title track Maharaje which has not-a-well-to-do intro and sounds fake. Jazzy has tried his best to make this song larger than life, but the song falls short on lyrics and is full of cliches. The next track is Peengh, which once again has beautiful lyrics. Kuldeep Manak and Jazzy have done great justice to the song. The Harmonium interludes are brilliant. One fine track.
Surrey is a good track and has contemporary lyrics which have been sung in folk rhythm and rustic flavor. Kirpana is an awesome track and if the album was launched with the name Kirpana, it would have beneficial as its a great song and suits Jazzy’s image as well. Jazzy and Manak have sung in perfect harmony in this track .
Rang introduces Hard Kaur on rap. The song is a typical rap song with normal romantic lyrics and doesnt impress much. The motherly flavor has been given in the song Maa. The song has nice lyrics but the song could have been a lot better. Jazzy has sung it nicely but the pathos doesnt get reflected. Another trio song is Rabb in which the three singers come together again. The song has been sung well and ranks higher on the album.
Patka is an awesome song with Kuldep Manak in full glory. Awesome lyrics, great music and greatly sung, this song is the finest track on the album. The album ends with Sucha, which is equally good. Altogether the album Maharajas has Jazzy B in a mature role and in better control of his voice and his songs. The songs also reflect his better grip and the album is a great package. However at 12 tracks its a tad long.
